This is my third time hitting the Dalton circuit with Minis, and it is always SUCH a fun time photographing and catching up with friends and clients I have not seen in a while.

Trust me, it will be a fun time for you too, when you watch me perform my silliest tricks to get your kids (and you… let’s be honest!) loosened up

Even when the probability is low, most clients are eager to reschedule, because they don’t want rain to ruin their pictures.

But not the McDaniel family.

They love the outdoors, and were not afraid of a few raindrops… so we decided to go through with the session rain or shine!

I kind of love that… especially since I don’t get many chances to do rainy day portraits.

Rain really does cast a romantic mood and add some sparkle to pictures, don’t you think?

Anyway, I love this family maternity session… definitely some major sweetness overload going on here!

Ashley has been a dear friend since our early days after college. You can read about what she means to me here <3

Though I had met and spent time with Justin before, I got to know him well over the few days I spent with Ashley in DC. And the more I got to know him, the more I adored him… and the more certain I was about what a perfect match he was for Ashley.

Any guy who tracks my lost iphone down in DC, makes arrangements to meet a stranger in sketchy part of DC to retrieve it, and even goes so far as to try to tip the guy who returned it… is definitely worthy of marrying my girlfriend. Justin is definitely a keeper!

Anyway, very soon after Justin and Ashley got engaged, Ashley called and told me that she had her heart set on me photographing her wedding. And can I just say, as a photographer, that is an amazing compliment. I never try to pressure friends to use me as their photographer. So when they select me to capture special events in their lives (especially weddings), it is truly an honor!

But then, at some point before the new year, Ashley called again. She was conflicted. She told me that I am one of her best friends, and wanted to give me the choice of photographing or being a bridesmaid. Geez. That was a tough call.

But ultimately, I decided that while I love Ashley and will always be her bridesmaid in my heart, I wanted to be there for her in the way that would make her happiest on her special day… and I knew that she wanted me to be her photographer most of all.

So that is what I was <3

Two people adored by their families, adored by their friends… and most importantly, adored by each other.

So it is no wonder that their friends, who know and love them well, planted the idea of this courtship in their minds years ago.

And it is no wonder that their courtship blossomed into this gorgeous matrimonial affair.

Because there are so many images depicting this stunning wedding, I will be blogging it twice.

This post shows highlights of the first part of the day, through the wedding ceremony, and the second post will show the second half of the idea, through the reception.

First off, I must state the obvious. They are a positively stunning couple. Like flawless, call-your-agent, magazine-gorgeous.

But their gorgeousness multiplied during the course of our shoot, for several reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with their good looks.

Such as Prashanth’s frequent compliments of his fiance’s beauty and intelligence. Seriously, guys. Take a lesson from Prashanth!

And Kavitha’s no-fuss deference to Prashanth’s judgment when it came to what jacket he would wear for photos.

And perhaps most importantly, their ability to laugh hysterically when we found a rodent head on the sidewalk. By the way, if anything, I am playing down the repulsiveness of our encounter with said corpse. Without a sense of humor, hysteria could have ensued!

Lucky for me, I get to photograph these amazing guys AGAIN next weekend as they tie the knot in an Indian ceremony, with lots of modern touches. I can’t wait!

So much excitement that I had a small panic attack when I realized that the newest issue of Atlanta Weddings Magazine, featuring Kameese and Jeff’s Montaluce wedding that I photographed in Fall 2012, had been sitting on the shelf for two days and I still had not picked up a copy!

Needless to say, I remedied the situation immediately.

And all I can say is WOW. What a gorgeous feature. I am so excited to see my work in print, and to share my excitement with such a wonderful bride and groom who put so much thought and love into planning their special day, as well as all of their wonderful vendors (including Montaluce Winery, Juli Vaughn Designs, NeatCards and Atlanta Wedding Productions).

Yep, the Hill babies like to make themselves known early on. I was showing at 10 weeks with both pregnancies… so you can imagine what my belly looks like at 39+ weeks.

Hint: not dainty.

So how have I been keeping myself busy during these months? Well, if you scroll back through my blog posts since June 2012, you will see that there has hardly been any downtime; in fact, it seemed that my work load actually ramped up at the beginning of my third trimester.

So that explains why Baby Hill #2′s room was backburnered until December, when my husband and I finally started clearing out the remnants of the old guest bedroom, cleaning out the closet, etc., to make a clean slate for the nursery.

Sadly, even after we cleared out the room, it remained a “clean slate” until literally 2 weeks ago when it started to come together. Thank goodness that we didn’t have any surprises, or else the little guy would not have had a place to sleep (I hear that procrastination is common with second kids– sadly I am not the supermom exception to this rule!)!

Because this will be our second child, we tried to use what we had, where we could, while still giving baby #2 a unique nursery. With that in mind, we repurposed most of the furniture from the first nursery (with the exception of the armoire, which was a fabulous hand-me-down from my grandmother!), but just changed the colors and decorative elements.

I commissioned the acrylic painting from fabulous artist, Lindsey (Turberville) Luepke, and had the drapes custom made… but those were my splurges. Everything else was store-bought, and in some instances, spray painted to suit by me (And YES, I was wearing a respirator, eye mask and latex gloves for painting projects!!).

Also, lessons from my first child guided many of my decorating decisions. For instance, we have all heard that bumpers are controversial, but I thought that they added so much cuteness to the nursery that I had some custom made last time. Though we didn’t have any issues with crib safety, it took almost no time for them to get crumpled and make the investment seem pointless… so we opted for a fun crib sheet this time instead

Finally, though I didn’t get to theme-y with the room, I did include golden retrievers (including pictures of our very own golden, Wilson) several times in the room. It was lots of fun dressing him up in ties for his special display above the changing table.

I hope to be rocking a new baby to sleep in this room very, very soon.

She was so expressive… that smile will be melting hearts one day

Mom and Dad tell me that she loves all animals, and the dog roaming our photo spot during our session was no exception. Turns out that she has the same intense love for children and playgrounds

It was pretty adorable, but since we wanted Anna Grace to focus on being cute for pictures, rather than the other exciting things going on in the park, we moved off the beaten path.

Thank goodness we did, because these photos of this beautiful girl just brings joy to my heart!

She is one of those babies (ahem, toddlers) that you immediately want to snuggle! She is cuter than a button, and was so sweet and well behaved.

In addition to all of those things, she is also very curious.

She quietly and pensively studied her environment the way a scientist would, when collecting data for experiments. It was precious to observe, and I was happy that I was able to capture a few shots of inquisitive Anna, doing her thing!

But at the sight of a dog, Anna’s scientific concentration was shattered, and she became overwhelmed with happiness. That too was glorious to capture! What a range of emotions this little one has!

Anna, thank you so much for letting me capture you on your first birthday!!
